Match report The thirds lost their final pre-season friendly at a sunny Inch Park, in an enjoyable game against friendly opposition. Each of the 3rd XI's warm-up games has seen a progressive improvement in the bowling, but weak batting led to another heavy loss.

Musselburgh won the toss and batted, and were quickly in trouble as Vishnu (2/26) took early wickets. Tanny Gill (1/26) and Peter Russian (1/27) took a wicket each to keep the pressure on, as Musselburgh wobbled to 55/4. Peter Russian did particular well to maintain concentration despite phone-calls from his wife, who is shortly expected to deliver ESCC's newest supporter.

That Musselburgh were able to post a competitive score was down to an excellent 63 from Khalid, which included nine fours. He was ably supported by Macdonald (26) who worked the ball around intelligently. Together they added 87 for the fifth wicket.

Akshay Bhat did well to recover from some initial harsh treatment to finish the innings off with 3/43. Akshay, along with Vishnu, was the pick of the bowlers. The highlight of a serviceable fielding display was an excellent legside catch by wicketkeeper Craig Taylor.

The efforts in the field, however, were to be in vain as another poor batting display saw the thirds skittled out for 75. Akshay (21) sensibly saw off the opening bowlers, but no other batsman made double figures. So the thirds complete their pre-season having settled on a useful bowling attack, but still looking for an effective combination with the bat.
