Match report A poor batting performance saw the 3rds lose for the first time in the league this summer. Sent in to bat on very difficult pitch, Kingsley and Fyfe put on 24 for the first wicket, with Fyfe being the only South batsmen to score freely all day. Kingsley blocked for more than 20 overs, to little effect. Disciplined Broomhall bowlers made good use of the conditions, in which an up-and-down pitch made stroke-making difficult, and a slow outfield denied batsmen value for their shots.

A rash of poor strokes saw South bowled out for 56, a well-below par total. However, given the conditions, even that meagre score was conceivably defendable. Good bowling from Peter Russian (2/11) and the unlucky Vishnu (8-3-8-0) put severe pressure on Broomhall, as their economy also induced two run-outs, including one direct hit from Kingsley, moments after he'd dropped a catch. At 11/4, Broomhall were in real trouble, and a superb diving catch by Ross Welsh off the bowling of Calum put further pressure on the home side. But fittingly, for a club with such impressive youth prospects, a combination of a senior player, skipper Mike Warren, and one of the younger players, Jamie Pryce, kept their nerve and saw them home.
