Carlton XI v Edinburgh South Cricket Club Mitres on Sun 29 Jul 2007 at 2 p.m.
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 44 runs
A good day for cricket, not only because most of the game took place in bright sunny conditions but also because of what both sides can take out of the game. Two young Carlton batsmen both scored fifties but even so "The Mitres" bowled and fielded well enough to keep the home side under 200. Although our experienced opening attack went wicketless they were always tight and testing. Good catches obtained wickets for James M (his first) and Ganesh while Bill, on a landmark day, bowled one of his one of his East Under 16 squad, but only after being hit for six by him. Our innings suffered an early setback (0 for 2) but stands of 53 for the 3rd wicket (Ganesh & Peter L) and 67 for the 5th (Peter L & Gary) gave Carlton some anxious moments before the tail tumbled.
A great pleasure to play in the fine setting of Grange Loan on a firm and true surface.
