Match report The Thirds were adamant that they wanted to bat first on the true surface which Grange Loan provides and that is what they did after Jas had won the toss. The first ten overs resembled a TV highlights programme with boundaries for two of our top order batsmen (Phil 1 and Charlie 5) or wickets for the home bowlers. The youthful K. Burgess was the chief destroyer taking 5 wickets, four of them bowled although Mohandoss had been first to go beaten through the air by a young left arm spinner and trapped l.b.w.
Jas played a captain's part in leading a recovery from 38 for 6 in a partnership of 52 for the seventh wicket with Anura. Jas played an attacking role and Anura gave him great support with some astute placements to rotate the strike. When Jas fell with the score on 90 our innings folded quickly with Anura becoming a sixth victim for Burgess who sealed first place in the season's list of wicket takers in Division 7.
Jas and Sriram made early inroads into the home batting and Sharn secured a run out decision but opener Martin Robertson and junior left hander Olly Stones saw Carlton 5ths home in a stand which started with their score on 36 for 4.
