Match report Edinburgh South’s 3rd XI continued their recent impressive form with a comfortable win in very wet conditions in a friendly against Stewart Melville’s 4th XI. Both captains agreed to play just a 25 over game and South’s were put in to bat first by mutual consent. Tanny and Jonathon got the innings off to a quick start, and a stand of 34 between Paul Murphy and Dale Cooper for the 5th wicket got the 3rd’s back on track after the loss of some quick wickets. Some powerful hitting from Ross took them past 100 and enabled them to post a competitive score of 121 from their 25 overs. Paul Murphy top scored with an unbeaten 28.

Vishnu continued the impressive form he has shown recently with the ball, and was well supported by an aggressive spell from Tanny which included the breaking in half of one players bat. An impressive spell from debutant Luke followed, and Ross was unlucky not to get a hat trick from the other end. Calum picked up two wickets in his first over, before Jonathon grabbed the last to bowl Stewart Melville out for 69. A great win for the 3rd’s that highlighted the strength in depth of the club, and also allowed the absent captain to return to an intact winning streak.
