Match report On a wicket of very variable bounce or "marginally bumpy" as SMRH skipper David Higgins described it in his kind post on the ESCA forum, nine for no wicket from three overs appeared to be a reasonable opening. However, with the first ball of the fourth over leg spinner E. Campbell induced new recruit Phil Watson to hit his wicket and two balls later our M. Kane gloved a slow lifting delivery to slip where the catch was taken by their M. Kane. The same fate befell Peter G in the spinner's next over. Paul W became joint top scorer with Phil and some dogged batting down the order gained some extras although not too many runs off the bat as the innings extended to 28.3 overs.
The SMRH batsmen, particularly Number 2 C. Shearer, put bat to ball more firmly than we had done but Dominic in his third over produced a ball which trimmed Shearer's bails and in his next over Dom claimed his second wicket when Paul W took a magnificent running and diving catch. Our third wicket and a second bonus point arrived when Andy Barrie stumped Mike Kane off the bowling of Malcolm Kane who thus gained some compensation for his own dismissal.
An enjoyable ten over match followed. This was lost by 4 runs (SMRH 4 42 for 5; ESCC $ 38 for 7) Our highlights in this match were 2 wickets for Callum S whose probing bowling had gone unrewarded in the league match, two wickets for Andy Barrie who had given the gloves for an over to Dom who caught one of his victims. Dom also made our top score in this second game.
