Match report The 3rd XI continued their 100% start to the season with a comprehensive victory against a friendly against a good natured Musselburgh 3rds.

In conditions alternating between bright sunshine and heavy showers, the captains agreed to play a game shortened to 30 overs a side. Captain Kingsley won the toss and elected to bat. Opening the batting, Will George played the decisive innings of the match, with a magnificent 74 not out. Starting cautiously and effectively accelerating later in his innings, he hit five boundaries, but also scurried through for eleven twos and a three on a slow outfield.

After the loss of an early wicket, Will was asssisted by the fact his partner Chris Griggs, was able to score quickly straight away with a fluent 37 from 32 balls. They put on 71 for the second wicket. After Shah (1) was well caught on the boundary, Vishnu attacked in typically bucanneering fashion to score 26 in 22 balls. 158/5 in 30 overs was an imposing score to chase for a Musselburgh side with only eight players, plus a substitute fielder.

Kingsley and Vishnu opened the bowling economically, with Vishnu's slower ball accounting for Turnbull. Musselburgh were quickly falling behind the rate, and when promising young slow left arm bowler Gerald Dodson joined the attack, the end was nigh. Gerry's three wickets - including a smart stumping by Will and a good low catch at square leg by Chris - were just reward for an accurate spell. He also claimed a runout - one of three in the innings - as Musselburgh subsided to a heavy defeat.
