Match report For the second week in a row the captain lost the toss and we were asked to bat. In the absence of Calum, Ross and Brad opened the batting and made a steady start before Ross was bowled for 3. This brought Rahul to the crease and he upped the scoring rate, hitting 3 boundaries, a tricky task on the thick outfield, before being bowled for 20. Brad and Peter then put together a partnership of 34 which set us a good platform to attack in the final few overs. Unfortunately attacking was quite difficult thanks largely to the tight bowling from Holy Cross. We ended up on 103-6 with Brad top scoring with an excellent 34 not out. We headed along to Arboretum for an excellent tea and thought that we had a competitive score.

Adam and Rahul opened the bowling and both bowled excellently. Rahul took 4 wickets and Adam a little unfortunate to only take two but between them they went for only 20 runs in their 16 overs! After a slightly wayward start the first change bowler, and debutant, Russell found his line and ended with fine figures of 1-17. Gerry's slow bowling was, as usual, very effective and he also took a wicket with Ross taking a looping catch at gully. A strong innings from Holy Cross' number 7 Munroe (22*) brought them to within striking distance of our total, but Dominic bowled very well up the hill and offered the batsmen no scoring opportunities. This left the captain to bowl the final over with Holy Cross needing 17 to win with 2 wickets in hand. They could only score 6 which gave us our first win of the season.

An excellent performance all round and another close game played in a good spirit!
