Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 12 runs

Match report * MANIK and ADNAN STAR in COMEBACK WIN for SOUTH in LOW SCORING NAIL BITER *

Heriot's put South in to bat when they won the toss. Their bowlers must have been in good form earlier in the season when they reduced Carlton 2nds to 12 for 5 before the game was abandoned and they bowled very well at Inch Park in this contest They were also supported by good catching. We were soon in trouble at 10 for 2 in 3.4 overs and despite some stuffy batting by Nab, Qasim and Adnan this became 51 for 4 after 18.5. Our next four wickets only advanced our total to 63 but the last two wickets added another 29 thanks to some positive batting by Farhan, Rudi and Manik with the first named emulating his feat of the previous week by hitting two boundaries. This gave us a total of 92 to defend.
Doing so looked unlikely when Heriot's were 45 for 1 at the end of the10 over first power play which applies in the East Championship. (By way of comparison we had been 26 for 2 at the same stage.)

The wicket had been taken by Manik when the visiting No. 2 was caught at cover by Adnan with 32 on the board after 8.1 overs. The 11th over brought Manik 2 more wickets, which were separated by a wide ball. The first victim was ESCA President, Kashif Hussain, who gave Praful a highish catch at second slip, while the incoming bat fell l.b.w. In his next over Manik bowled visiting 'keeper C. Martin, who had looked a likely run scorer, while in the 16th over, from the Burn end, Adnan entered the wicket taking list assisted by a catch at mid off by Farhan. (52 for 5.)

Vipin replaced Manik at the Inch House end for the 17th over and gained an l.bw. decision with his 4th ball and no addition to the visitor's score. The 7th wicket pair had added 11 and Vipin had switched to the Burn end when we enjoyed some good fortune when Farhan contrived to take his second catch of the day at mid off. (63 for 7 from 25.1)

Another partnership developed for the 8th wicket but this was ended in the 31st over when Manik made ii a "fivefer" when he bowled No. 8, Anum. (79 for 8). In the next over Adnan brought South to victory by bowling the left handed No.10 with his first ball and 3 balls later having No. 11 caught at the wicket by Nab, who had returned behind the stumps after trying a couple of overs of spin.
