League Season - Week 2 Update

It's been a bumper week of cricket this week at Edinburgh South CC with a total of five matches!

Monday started with a great victory for the SouthMuir Sharks U14 junior team pulled off a fantastic win away to Grange Lightning, winning their T20 match in the 15th over chasing 113.

Friday saw our SouthMuir Sharks U12s take on Watsonians. A total of five players were making their debut in this format, and considering the numbers away they played really well sticking in the game for large parts until Watsonians pulled away at the end.

Saturday saw both senior men's teams in action. The ones facing a confident Edinburgh CC who scored over 400 runs off the 40 overs the previous week. We batted first and posted a respectable 181-7 off our 40 overs, John Amis top scoring with 33 and contributions from just about everyone. Edinburgh CC started like a train on 77-1 after 12 overs. Some brilliant bowling (pick of which was young Jake Amis, who's off spin gets better with every game) pulled it back to see us get over the line in the 37th over with Edinburgh CC still needing 26 runs to get our first win of the season.

The seconds had a tougher day at the office getting bowled out for around 50 against Holy Cross who chased the total down comfortably. Was great to see a few of the twos down supporting the ones to get over their line, and enjoy a couple of beers afterwards.

Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was the combined Edinburgh South / Stew Mel team (pictured) making their debut in the women's premier league at Inch Park in 20 degree sunshine heat and a healthy crowd of parents and well wishes. Our team was packed with a mix of experienced internationals and talented youngsters, and they set a brilliant tone for their first outing in the Premier League scoring 191-5 off their 30 overs. Top scorers were Catherine Fraser (68*) and Kathryn White (55) who both reached their fifties off just 33 deliveries.

The bowling was just as strong as the batting, with wickets shared all round the team as Watsonians reached 51 in their reply. A great start to the women's premier, well done!
