Edinburgh South Cricket Club News story

Five-fer Edinburgh South

22 Feb 2024

Edinburgh South Cricket Club is proud to announce the approval of our 5th XI to compete in the East of Scotland Cricket Association (ESCA) league, a testament to our rapid growth from fielding two to five XIs since 2019. This expansion reflects our dedication to providing competitive cricket opportunities for our members in a friendly, open and inclusive atmosphere.

Our new 5th XI will compete in a 14-team strong Division 8, alongside our 4th XI, providing an opportunity for more players to participate in competitive league cricket and develop their skills against a variety of opponents.

Additionally, it was decided that for this season pink match balls will be used in matches contested at all levels from the Championship to Division 6 to make the game more accessible and bring the league in line with other competitions across Scotland. The remaining red balls will be used for fixtures in Divisions 7 and 8 to ensure they are not wasted.

Requirements about playing kits remain unchanged for 2024 with the opportunity for teams to play in branded coloured kits in the future. This and other future developments will be discussed at the upcoming Club AGM which shall take place on Monday 4 March from 19:00 in the Clubhouse at Inch Park. All are invited to help shape the future of the club.
