Musselburgh CC 2nd XI v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 17 Apr 2010 at 13.00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 37 runs
Match report
On a cold day in Musselburgh, skip the Raddish won the toss and elected to bat ... greedy for runs early in the season. Things started badly however as South found themselves at 29-3. A good partnership by the Skip and Riyaz saw a good recovery. Riyaz playing within himself for once until demonstrating his usual flamboyance with a six over square leg to the longest boundary. A repeat effort saw him trapped plum LBW. Prabhakar then came in for his debut innings and looked impressive until slipping (no spikes!) to be run out at the strikers end. After the skip departed for a well constructed 40, the innings petered out with a flurry of wickets and South were dismissed for a disappointing 134.
It was therefore left yet again for the bowlers to show their worth and rescue things. They didn't disappoint. Kshitiz (bowling his first over since September as he's too lazy to come to nets!) took 2 wickets in his first 14 balls without a run scored against him. Rupani then bowled a magic leg spinner to the impressive Ahmed leaving Patel to whip the bails off as he reached for a ball that spun past his outside edge. A strong partnership between Martin and Gatner put things back on track for Musselburgh, but a great piece of bowling from Pirani left Patel to take an even smarter stumping to dismiss the Musselburgh skipper Gatner. Pirani then took another couple of quick wickets including a toe crunching faster ball, then left Tejaa to clean up the tail for a good win to start the season. Only 7 extras in 35 overs told the story as some tight bowling meant the low total was that much more difficult to reach.
