Match report A chilly north east wind persisted throughout this close encounter at Prestonpans, with the forecast sunshine only appearing for the last ten minutes as ESCC2 closed out a narrow win.

Inserted, ESCC2 started quietly, but Ram’s arrival transformed the innings. His 54 featured all of our three boundaries on a large slow outfield, but his confident stroke play warmed the aged scorer’s heart, just as the rest of his anatomy threatened to succumb to frostbite! Tesh, returning after a couple of years, and Sohail gave Ram useful support till we reached 94 for 3 in the 34th over. But four wickets fell at that score, before a late scramble resulted in a total of just 112 all out.

Daryll soon reduced PVCC to 14 for 3, before an increasingly dangerous fourth wicket partnership of 51 threatened to take the game away from us. Seven bowlers were used, and good discipline by all caused the asking rate to climb. As more risks were taken, ESCC2 picked up wickets, assisted not least by two superb direct hit runouts by Jamie, each from over twenty yards. Daryll’s 4 for 24 was his best ESCC return.

Victory, even by just 6 runs against these tough opponents, was very satisfying.
