Match report
Last week ESCC2s fought a steeply uphill struggle, but this game was much more evenly balanced. The result though was the same – a loss by 18 runs.

Livingston 2s opener Darren Hall scored 59 out of 66 for 2 when Gerry had him stumped attempting another big hit. His replacement Faisal Anwar punished loose deliveries to make 48, before becoming the first of the last five wickets to fall for just one run. Gus took 5 for 18, his best this season, and was the main beneficiary of that collapse, while Daryll’s 9-5-11-1 was excellent too. Ayyapan improved well after a loose start. Gerry took a couple of useful wickets, but became expensive latterly.

Targeting 154, Praveen failed to match his heroics of last week. Will soon got into his stride, playing many good shots along the ground which on shorter grass would have reached the boundary. His 36 was easily top score. The middle order rather flattered to deceive, leaving us on 79 for 7. However a positive eighth wicket partnership of 26 between Ayyapan (19) and Daryll (16) kept us in the hunt. In the end, even the combined 130-odd years of Gus and Gerry could not bring us home. Livingston 2s attack was useful, and 12 year old Amir Raza deserves special mention for his two wickets, plus a good outfield catch.

This was a friendly and competitive match, played on a rare summery day, in lovely surroundings at Newfield.
