Match report Musselburgh won the toss and opted to bat on Meadows No.2 on a sunny afternoon which had attracted a large crowd of sunbathers and potential footballers.
We gained our first bowling bonus point when the visiting captain A. Javed, a former Mitre player, slapped Ian's second ball into Katthik's hands at backward point. Further bonus points were harder to earn due to a positive innings of 115* by 'Burgh's no. 4, Q. Ahmed. They came thanks to a good catch in the gully by Ian off Ben Lee who also gained an l.bw. victim as did Karthik. Mid-way through the last 10 overs, in which we gave up 96 runs, Peter G clean bowled the no. 6 bat to grab a third bowling point.
Tea was taken in the middle to stop the pitch being re-possessed by the crowd.
Set an imposing 274 to win batting bonus points were the main target in our innings which Captain Peter anchored from the no. 2 berth. Wickets, however tumbled at the other end and we were 23 for 5 after 13.5 overs. A cameo 13 by Karthik helped add 18 with the skipper for the 6th wicket and this stand was improved by 3 when Peter and Ewan put on 21 for the 7th. Ewan, who finished with 42 (5 x 4), was scoring with growing confidence and he was joined by Ian in an 8th wicket partnership of 31 which was key in arriving at our final haul of three batting points.
