Match report At a sunny but bitterly cold Station Park, the 3s began their Division 8 campaign with a convincing win. Winning the toss and batting first, South knew that their strong bowling attack and a slow outfield would make a modest total defendable.

After Gerry was unfortunately run-out with a direct hit from the deep, Chris (22) and Andy (29 - his highest score) set about building cautiously in a partnership of 30. Colin (21), hitting three fours, gradually increased the tempo, before making way for Vishnu (33) to play his best innings for the club, beginning watchfully before accelerating. With Andy providing the backbone of the innings, a respectable target of 135 was set.

Early breakthroughs from Colin and Vishnu put Largo under immediate pressure at 26/2. From there, consistently accurate bowling saw the 3s control the innings. Colin - conceding only six runs in his eight consecutive overs - was immaculate, as was James, who gave away barely one and half runs per over and was unlucky to take only one wicket.

Debutants Ian and Eoghan also bowled well, the latter taking a wicket with his third ball for the club. With the required run rate climbing, Largo were forced to gamble, and Gerry (3/13) and Pete (2/2) held their nerve and profited accordingly.

With Largo bowled out 45 runs short of the target, a good first victory was complete, and South returned home grateful of the warm hospitality and sporting conduct of their opponents.
