Match report The 3s returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory at a gloriously sunny Peffermill.

Winning the toss and inviting the opposition to field, Ross and Andy began cautiously. On a pitch that frequently kept low, scoring was difficult against the disciplined SMRH bowlers, particularly the excellent Mosthafa Miah. Just 11 runs were scored from the first 9 overs, and as Andy and Ayyapan fell for 5 apiece, the innings was in danger of stagnating. Ross (21) began a process of acceleration, paving the way for Raveen and Mohib to share the defining partnership of 81.

Both began sensibly, but were able to kick on finding the boundaries that were initially scare. Raveen went on to hit six fours and three sixes, his unbeaten 77 was just one run short of Will George's 3rd XI record. With 97 runs added in the last 12 overs, an imposing target of 169 was set.

Despite some initial resistance for the Stewart Melville openers in a stand of 22, the visitors struggled against hostile bowling. Colin (1/13) made the opening breakthrough, again conceding less than 2 an over. Ayyapan (3/4) was the pick of the bowlers, his four overs were difficult to keep out, and all but impossible to score from. The later stages of the innings provided Hiren (2/3) and Luke (2/2) with useful opportunities to bowl some overs. Three good catches from Ross, James and Luke, and good ground fielding that prevented even a single boundary from being scored completed a fine performance.
