Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Musselburgh CC on Sat 20 Apr 2013 at 13:00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 46 runs
Match report
We followed on from last week with another good win against sterner opposition.
Graeme got stuck straight in to the Scottish bowling and got the scoreboard ticking nicely despite loosing Will in the 2nd over. Akshay gave Graeme some useful company, but it was Ian who stabilised the innings. We saw the benefit from rotating the strike and putting pressure on the field; something that we must continue to do this season. The bad balls were still put away for boundaries and Abhishek ensured that continued when he joined Ian for another good partnership. Durga kept things ticking nicely at the end, and despite not batting out our overs there were a lot of positives and lessons to be taken from the innings.
We didn't let them get away early with Charlie taking 2 wickets in his first spell and Abhishek bowling 2 maidens and a wicket maiden. Durga kept up the good work and eventually got his reward of 3 wickets. Kshitiz continued to tease batsmen to the point where they couldn't even nick one to give him a wicket. Kunal showed good promise for a part time bowler back after 4 years away, and Akshay proved that when he gets it right he has the handy knack of taking wickets. Finally Ian, on the back of a very useful innings, produced an lovely spell of miserly bowling. A few catches did go down today and we let our concentration slip at points (the skipper most definitely included), but overall we can be pleased with the fielding performance. We worked together well as a team and supported the bowlers well. Graeme took a couple of tidy catches and Durga finished the match with a ridiculous direct hit run out at the non-strikers end from the fine leg boundary.
Another step forward and a good platform from which to start the league and cup fixtures next weekend.
