Edinburgh South Cricket Club 2nd XI v Edinburgh Academicals 2nds on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 1300
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 17 runs
Match report
The 2nds overcame a poor batting performance and some spirited to Accies batting to register an important win.
The 2s, missing Luke and Asanka, were sent into bat on one of the sunniest days of the year, and on a good pitch that had seen a 267 vs 267 tie the previous week. Accies were understrength, with just eight men, with a ninth to come later - supplemented by Edinburgh South substitutes who returned the favour from earlier in the season.
Hiren hit a good 35, taking advantage of the quick outfield to hit 6 fours. But others around him gave their wickets away, either finding fielders when set or bowled playing big shots before getting in. Despite some good bowling from Accies opener Khanchi, South largely had themselves to blame for a distinctly subpar 127.
Nonetheless, with only 8 wickets to take, the 2s always had a chance. The Accies captain Ankit started very aggressively, but was well caught on the long-off boundary by Eoghan. The four seamers all bowled well and despite a persistent partnership for the 6th wicket, South were never out of the game.
Despite the win, the 2s will actually drop from 2nd to 3rd in Division 5. Dunfermline Carnegie's win over Holy Cross 2s has done enough for their percentage to see them leapfrog South - albeit by a tiny fraction. Edinburgh South will have the opportunity to reverse those positions next week, as they travel to play their promotion rivals Dunfermeline in Pitreavie.
