Match report
Frequent blustery showers punctuated this game. We came off a couple of times, but everyone got rather wet before the game was over.

PV 2s had only eight players, so Ian had no hesitation in asking them to bat first. Their openers were contained well by Colin and Pete’s lively spells, but survived some strong appeals. Both bowled very economically without reward. Brendon’s introduction to the attack brought the breakthrough. Runs came a little faster, but his three wickets and Calum’s two broke the back of PV 2s’ short innings. Gerry picked up the last two in quick time, leaving PV 2’s total on 84. Colin, Craig and Graham held good catches in the process.

In view of the unsettled weather, we sensibly agreed to play on straight away. Jamie, making his ESCC debut, opened with Calum, and played a couple of bold shots before he got out. We have become accustomed to Brendon’s batting pulling us through most situations, and he put in some diligent practice in the nets. However for once he fell cheaply – 14 for 2. Graham soon made 14, finding gaps in the thinly populated field, and restoring the initiative to ESCC 3s, while Calum anchored the innings at the other end with 33*. Ian seems to enjoy playing in the rain more than most, or was he just keen to get inside? Whatever, his 19* contribution saw us home.

This was another win under the belt, when some of our league rivals may have lost out to the weather.
