Match report
The forecast for Saturday had gradually improved as the week progressed, and when the time came, it was a still, warm afternoon with variable slow moving cloud.

The 3s had to win this close encounter of the 4s kind, to be certain of promotion. Both sides were reduced by unavailability down the club, so we arranged to play eight a side. The 4s’ captain for the day, Vishal won the toss, and took some time for a discussion before deciding to bat. Although limited in number, the 3s’ attack was sound. Opening with Colin and Richard, the 3s soon made inroads into the depleted 4s line up. Ross (7) and Vishal (9) top scored, as Colin took his first five wicket haul for some time. He was ably supported by Richard, who picked up the remaining two wickets. The personal highlight was the debut of Deva’s 9 year old son, Rohith, who scored his first competitive run. The innings lasted just over 10 overs, and made 35 in total, coincidentally the same as in the reverse fixture back in June.

Turning round immediately, Peter Fyfe (7*) and Robert (12*) chased down the target in six overs with care and conviction. Their task was assisted by 14 wides, the last of which secured our victory.

It was incongruous that this culmination of the 3s’ promotion season should occur without stalwarts Ian Ross, Brendon Hillyard and Calum Raine, all missing due to selection for the 2s, where Brendon scored another century.

After a break for tea, we played a 20 over a side game, mixing the teams. The detailed composition of each team is unimportant, but the game ended in a pulsating win, or loss depending which side you were on, by one run.
