Marchmont CC v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 13 Apr 2013 at 12:00 for a 1pm start
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The weather Gods were finally smiling on us and we actually had some sunshine to play cricket in. The Meadows unsurprisingly provided us with a Meadows type pitch with the customary 'exciting' bounce.
Having lost the first toss of the season, new skipper Will was pleased to be asked to bowl first. All of the bowlers acquitted themselves very well, getting good movement and control. All of the seasoned 1st XI bowlers can be pleased with their first outings, but special mention should go to Kshitiz who bowled brilliantly despite not having bowled since last summer and new boy Brendon who will be a great asset to the club in every aspect of the game.
The fielding performance was excellent, especially for the first match of the season and given the tricky Meadows outfield. It would be great to keep up the same concentration levels and support for the bowlers. Durga took a ridiculous one handed catch to dismiss their well set batsmen in what was a near perfect catching performance (all chances were taken apart from one tricky one).
Akshay and Will opened up with a sensible partnership, although Will was dropped when he skied one off a top edge. The 'exciting' bounce was very evident throughout the innings, but so were some nicely struck boundaries. Paul was particularly lucky to avoid having his head taken off by a venomous drive from Ram. Having reached the target in the 20th over for the loss of 2 wickets the captains agreed to play for another 6 overs, hence the slightly unusual final score. This gave Calum the perfect opportunity to show off his excellent technique and timing and he graciously obliged.
A very pleasing start to the season and a performance to build on. A real team performance with everyone contributing.
