Edinburgh University Ladies CC v Edinburgh South Cricket Club Mitres on Sun 21 Apr 2013 at 13:00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 26 runs

Match report Late morning rain caused some anxiety about this match taking place but the wet weather cleared away quickly and an enjoyable match took place on a bright but cold afternoon.
Edinburgh University Ladies were invited to bat when Bill won the toss and Peter Fyfe struck in his second over when the home captain defelected a ball on to her stumps.. Shortly after Paul Murphy combined with 'keeper Andy Barrie to bring about a run out but this was followed by a good partnership which ended when Craig Taylor took a good catch at mid-wicket off the bowling of Graham Smith. The Mitres next success came when Bob Gooday bowled Ruth Willis, one of the openers, for a well made 38. Ruth had not been afraid to give herself room to play square on the off side and had driven firmly in the classic vee either side of the bowlers stumps - if this was not impressive enough Ruth then claimed the wickets of our top four and held a good catch in the field.Player of the Match beyond any shadow of doubt.
Number 5, F. Cousens kept the scoreboard ticking until the Murphy/Barrie combination struck again in the penultimate over when Andy made a smart stumping off Paul's bowling. Meanwhile at the railway end the captain, who had tried not to be too distracted earlier when the Royal Scotsman coaching stock made its way round the South sub, had embarked on a spell that was both longer and more successful than might have been expected. At the end of the alloted 35 overs E U Ladies finished on 91 for 8.
After a good tea in the warmth of the Laurie Liddell clubhouse a typical batting collapse saw us decline from 12 for none at the end of 4 overs to 15 for 5 in the 10th over. Craig, Fyfey, Andy, Colin and Darren played positively to put a better complexion on the total but any chance of salvaging a win disappeared when Craig perished for our top score of 19 to the aforementioned catch by Ruth Willis at square leg.
Thanks go to EUCC Ladies for all the arrangemants which they made for this match and also to the umpires Messrs. Redford and Scully. The former is one of Scotland's most experienced officials and the latter a parent, who gave his daughter out lbw. Having non-playing umpires is a rare experience for the Mitres and one which they both appreciated and found enlightening.
