Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Heriots CC 2nd XI on Sat 22 Aug 2015 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Acting captain Mike lost the toss and Heriots opted to bat. They made a brisk start on a slow wicket and a damp outfield. However, early bowling changes were effective as Farhan, coming on for the seventh over, opened with a maiden and Cheslyn started the next over by taking a wicket with the first ball he bowled (34 for 1 from 7.1 - this the highest partnership of the match). This was the third time in the season that Ches had claimed a wicket with the first ball of his first spell having previously done so in both matches against Gala.
Farhan claimed the next two wickets, both by inducing the batsman to scoop a catch into the hands of Rajeev at cover and this mode of dismissal was repeated when Roshan removed the surviving opener, Chris Goddard, although this time it was Henry who took the catch. Indy claimed an l.b.w. victim at end of the 22nd over and with only 2 runs coming from the next three overs the visitors were 88 for 5 at the 25 over drinks interval.
The first ball after the break produced a run out thanks to the Australian combination of Henry and Mike. Tight bowling by Indy limited the scoring rate and two wickets for Chappers in his second spell brought on the thought that we might deny Heriots a batting point but Robert More took his side to that landmark before he fell l.bw. to Farhan.
Manu and Cheslyn put on 24 for the first wicket before the former was caught in the gully. Cheslyn, who had been playing some fine off drives along the ground without beating the field, soon followed his partner to the chairs when he gave a catch to mid off when he attempted to hit over the field. In the middle order Chappers, who struck three impressive boundaries, Rajeev and Roshan batted well with the last named crucially adding 22 for the 8th wicket with Mike. Following Roshan's dismissal at 107 Mike and Farhan saw us to the win.
