Match report
I won the toss again and decided to stick with tradition and have a bowl. With hindsight this may have been a mistake, especially as we only had 8 players ready for the start...
Moore got RHC off to a flyer battering any delivery to, and usually over, the boundary. He was dropped several times throughout his innings, notably by myself when he cant have been on more than 20. Oops. The first break through came when Jim took a sharp catch down the legside off Eoghan to remove the other opener, Yellowlees. 128-1. In the 14th over. Moore, joined by Brunton continued to hit and the wind made bowling tricky, and bails unusable. The stumps also fell over a few times. It really was very windy. Shine bowled Brunton and then Rahul D bowled new batsman West. 181-3. A collapse? I decided to show the bowlers how it's done, brought myself on to bowl and was promptly hit for 6 by Moore. He tried to repeat the trick, and found the fielder, Rahul N who held a juggling catch. Unbelievable scenes. Moore out for an excellent 127 including no fewer than FOURTEEN 6s. Prabhneet was unlucky not to be rewarded with a wicket, he bowled particularly well in the wind with the batsmen struggling to get him away. Khan and Adams put on a 50 partnership before Adams provided Gerry with his customary wicket, holing out to myself on the cover boundary. There then followed an actual collapse with RHC losing their final 6 wickets for only 19 runs. Eoghan with a clean bowled, followed by two more for himself both caught by Ross 'Safe Hands' Henderson at short cover. Rahul N picked up the final two wickets, lbw then another catch by 'Safe Hands'. 279 all out. We did very well to bowl them out and if our catching had been better in the first 15 overs, it might have been a different story.
Tea was had. Eoghan, buoyed by his four wickets perhaps, was confident we could chase it down. It was much warmer in the pavilion than it was outside, we were reluctant to restart play.
Brad and I opened again. Brad was out for 5 bowled by West, who had captained RHC 2s last year, and was really pretty good. I followed soon after for 11. The Rahuls had a bit of a hit before Rahul Dhar was out stumped for 13 then Karamjit departed caught behind for 1. Rahul N was then run out - if only he'd run his bat in! Shine made 3 but was bowled by West. 53-6, a massive defeat was looking likely. However in the gale, with occasional icy rain Ross and Jim managed to form a partnership. They saw out West and Anwar who both bowled excellently and were able to pick up runs against the change bowlers. A 50 partnership followed and took our score over the 100 mark, with Ross in particular impressing with 3 successive boundaries. Jim then was out, caught at midwicket for a very good 24. Eoghan came and hit a massive 6 then was bowled. Prabhneet followed, also bowled. Gerry managed to see out the hattrick ball but didn't trouble the scorers. We finished on 134 to give us 9 bonus points!
RHC are by far the best team in this division, so losing with 9 bonus points is no disaster. It could have been closer if we'd held our catches.
Home game next week v Tranent 2s.
