Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won By 26 runs
Match report
The late reshuffle which brought in Harry Warner for his first game of the season certainly played its part in this win.
Sent in to bat after Mike had called incorrectly Abhishek and Manu put on 43, including 7 boundaries, for the first wicket in 7.4 overs as both took advantage of the smooth outfield prepared by Livingston groundsman Jim Wilson. Manu fell to a no more than ankle high caught and bowled and the good start was continued when Karl joined Abhi to add 50 for the second wicket to make us 93/2 from 21.5. The pace was now off the ball at both ends and two balls later Karl was adjudged to be l.b.w. and the momentum was moving the direction of the home side. The pace off the ball recipe succeeded in both slowing our scoring rate and taking wickets so that at the fall of the 6th wicket we had 113 on the board from 31.4. At this stage Harry had been at the crease for almost 8 overs and had crafted 14 runs. He was joined by Luke and together they added 20 with sound shot selection and speedy running between the wickets before Like became the second c.& b. victim of the innings. Wiqas also ran boldly to give Harry the strike in an undefeated last wicket partnership which also featured two of Harry's four boundaries.
With the ball Farhan claimed a wicket in the sixth over and Karl claimed two wickets in combination with Joe behind the stumps - one a multi-juggled effort- and Abhi took a catch at deep mid on off Luke to make Livi 62/4 from 17.1. A stand by S.Asghar (no. 3) and T. Chandler threatened but after they had put on 27 Harry played his part with the ball by having the home No. 3 l.b.w. Chandler departed three balls later as the victim of a smart third catch by Joe to the first ball of a spell by Wiqas who gained a second wicket later in the over when Farhan took a catch at point. The remainder of the home innings consisted of a positive knock of 28 (6 x 4)by Greg Murdoch, son of "Mitre Legend" Iain, which may gave caused some anxiety but Wiqas bowled their No. 9, Omkar ran out their No. 10 and Farhan rounded things off by bowling Greg Murdoch.
After it was all over, Livingston were most complimentary about Joe's keeping while we were full of praise for the condition of the Dresselrigg outfield. Captain Rusty said "Good to be 2 and 0."
