Match report Acting captain Karl won the toss and invited Westquarter to bat. Farhan and Karl kept things tight in the first 8 overs during which we secured the first of three run outs - this one due to good fielding by Harry W. Wiqas came on as first change and bowled 2 batsmen during another restrictive spell and he was well supported by Harry. Captain Hamad Mumtaz at No. 3 was the visiting danger man. He opened his account with a six and scored 47 out of 100 runs scored while at the crease by the time he was the 7th wicket to fall and our third run out victim thanks to Karl's intervention making W & R 106 for 7. The second run out had made it 57 for 5. This had originated from a diving stop by Rajeev who threw to bowler Omkar who relayed the ball to Joe's gloves. Farhan and Karl returned to sweep up the tail so that the bails came off in each of the ten dismissals - 7 bowled and three run outs.
Manu was the rock in the early stages of our innings with No. 5 Rajeev a supporting partner in a stand of 27 for the 4th wicket. When Manu was dismissed for 32 Rajeev took over as the senior partner in the decisive partnership of 42 for the 5th wicket with Luke who described his 16 as "the hardest runs I have ever made." They were, however, vital. Two fours by Rajeev and one by Omkar, perhaps not exactly as intended,hastened the end making Captain Rusty, who had been restricted to the eager role of scoreboard operator, happy.
As Karl reflected later " we now know that we can set a total and also chase a tricky target."
