Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Falkland 2nds on Sat 30 Jul 2016 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 157 runs
Match report
It was a much changed Falkland 2nds team which came to Inch Park but they repeated their first game success with the toss and again sent South into bat.
Charanjit again got us off to a flying start with support from Manu who was the first to be dismissed when he was bowled by Falkland's fifth, and most successful, bowler. The opening stand was 78 in 13.2 overs. Charanjit was stumped 2.2 overs later to bring an innings containing 5 x 4s and 4 x 6s to an end. Simon T joined Karl who had gone in at No. 3 and together they put on 63 for the 3rd wicket before Karl was out l.b.w. Rajeev played wristily for 21 before Paul joined Simon in a partnership of 61 for the 5th wicket in 7.2 overs. This featured some smart running between the wickets. Simon's fluent and powerful innings of 94 ended at the end of the penultimate over. It included 4 x 4s and the same number of 6s. Mike became the second batsman, this season, to go to the wicket but not face a ball.
Falkland''s fifth bowler, Art Anson, had been their best bowler with 4 for 55 and his positive batting yielded him 58 runs before he was fifth out. He had made 20 out of the 28 put on by the visitors for the first wicket when Karl trapped his partner l.b.w. after 9.3 overs. Wiqas came on for the eleventh over and his first ball was pulled into Paul's hands at short mid-wicket. Luke struck in the 16th over and a run out just before the drinks break made the reply 76 for 4. Paul hit the stumps for a second time in his final over when he ended Anson's innings to make the Fife side 101 for 5. Karl, 1 for 5 in his first five over spell, returned to bag 3 wickets in 7 balls, 2 bowled and 1 l.b.w. to polish off the innings. Falkland batted two players short after Owen Chambers had become unwell while fielding and he had been taken home by his father who later reported that Owen had recovered after a period of rest.
