Broomhall 2nds v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 11 Jun 2016 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 52 runs
Match report
Despite another loss I think that every player from Edinburgh South 3s would be happy to play this game every week. It was played in what I would describe as the best of the spirit of cricket. A lovely ground, good tea and great sportsmanship (and banter) from Broomhall 2s. Losing the toss ESCC 3s were ask to bowl first and started well against a very solid opening pair of batsmen. Punished for anything loose the opposition again made it to drinks without loss, even with the skipper turning his arm over with his first 6 overs going for a miserly 10 runs. The drinks interval once again proved useful for us and Jake's introduction to the attack brought immediate dividends. Charlie then picked up the other opener's wicket with a nice catch from Graham at point. That brought Robin Orr to the wicket and he unleashed a fearsome barrage of shots only succumbing to injury, sadly for him. The total of 213-5 we felt manageable if challenging.
Setting about chasing Brad once again fell early to some very tight and canny bowling by the opposition skipper. John and Karamjit then put on a very tidy and well-paced 50 partnership. A steady loss of wickets and some tight bowling saw our chances slowly waning but the skipper, sending in Harry above him, made his best choice of the day: after a cautious start, facing some very tight and accurate bowling, Harry hit his first senior boundary with a lovely hook down through fine leg. True to the great atmosphere of the game the opposition, to a man, gave Harry a round of applause for this milestone. Harry then went on to hit another six boundaries, putting on a final blaze of shots that any member of any of our teams would have been happy to play. His final wicket partnership with Prabhneet of 27 took us to our highest score of the season and earned us our final batting point. Match ball to Harry!
