Dunfermline & Carnegie 2nds v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 27 Apr 2019 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report When the eight of us arrived in Dunfermline it was belting down with rain and this quickly turned to hail putting the fixture in doubt for a while. To increase the chances of a completed match we agreed to 20 overs a side. A break in the weather meant we could start and while the pitch had been covered, the outfield was soaking.

ESCC won the toss and batted first, run scoring proved difficult as the opening bowlers were tight and the ball wasn’t exactly zipping across the sodden outfield. Jeremy’s wicket was the first to fall when he chopped on for 3, Fahad scored 4 before he was well caught. Graham and Keshav then put on a bit of a partnership, picking up singles but boundaries proved elusive. Keshav was caught for 7 attempting a bit of improvisation. Kalyan made an immediate impact and was able to hit the ball harder and made Graham run a few 2s. Graham was run out for 34 off the final ball and Kalyan (16*) and Aaron (1*) were the not out batsmen giving us a final score of 74 off our 20 overs.

We intended to skip tea and have it at the end of the game, but the weather had other ideas and there was another significant downpour but fortunately it cleared up.

Aaron and Aman opened the bowling and both bowled very well giving away very little and taking 3 wickets between them. Aman got the first which was well caught by Kalyan in the legside and Aaron the next two first of all knocking Miller’s off stump out of the ground then trapping Westgarth LBW. Kalyan kept up the pressure with the ball while Graham delivered the complete range of full tosses from the other end. Fortunately one of these full tosses was hit straight to a fielder to bring the 4th wicket. Two sensational direct hit runouts followed this one each from Aaron and Aman to leave Dunfemrline in a little bother. Jeremy was now bowling very tightly from one end but unfortunately Dunfermline were just able to get over the line with one over to spare.

A very good effort from the eight of us to keep the game so close and with one more bowler we may have done it. Special mentions go to Aaron for getting a run, 2 wickets, a catch and a run out and the whole team (especially Keshav and Paul) for fielding so well in very difficult conditions.
