Heriots 3rds v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 22 Aug 2020 at 13:00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 151 runs
Match report
Eoghan Forde started his captaincy by losing the toss so Heriot's put us in to bat on a wicket looking much greener than is usual at Goldenacre. Downpours of rain during the week also meant that the ball did not come on to the bat as quickly as might have been expected. This led to an exploratory opening three overs as Charanjit and Will settled into an opening partnership of 76 in 12.2 overs. Will fell to a catch off the third change bowler and brought Douglas to join Charanjit at the wicket. They put on on 36 for the second wicket in 3.3 overs.
Charanjit was third to go, well caught on the boundary for 83 with the total on 126 for 3 after 18.2 overs having batted for 72 minutes. (Sorry ball counting was not being carried out: Charanjit himself thought it was the longest he had batted for some time.) Nab, at number 4, had been playing himself in whilst a cluster of wickets at the other end so that after 21 overs we were 145 for 6 when Kiran went in. Together thay added 56 for the seventh wicket in 6.4 overs with some positive batting. The partnersip was broken immediately after Nab had reached his own fifty. Kiran continued in that fashion until he was last out for 34.
The Heriot's reply was soon in disarray at 12 for 3 from 5.1 overs. Three catches had featured in this good start for our bowlers. Eoghan, fielding at mid off, used his strong left hand to pluck the ball out of the air off the last deliveryl of the opening over bowled by Charlie. Kiran struck with the first ball of the second over by deflecting a potential caught and bowled into Dib's hands, also at mid off. Dib was still there to catch a firm drive by the home captain when Kiran captured rthe third wicket to fall. The fourth wicket fell when Charlie became the first of our bowlers to hit the stumps. Harry replaced him at the Ferry Road end and with his second ball he induced an edge to Will behind the stumps. A catch by Charanjit off Kiran ended a mini-partnership for sixth wicket. A runout produced wicket number seven and Harry emulated his Dad by clean bowling Heriot's number seven who had been offering some positive resistance. This left Nab and Dib to remove the tail and complete a comprehensive victory.
