Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Kirk Brae CC on Sat 24 Jul 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report This edition of the Gilmerton Road Derby was entirely different to the tight game at Double Hedges in late May when KB edged the win with an over to go. In this encounter South recorded a comfortable victory by seven wickets with 15.3 overs remaining.
On winning the toss Eoghan gave Kirk Brae first use of the wicket. This continued a recent trend by yielding Virender early wickets. This time in his second and third overs. The first by hitting the poles and the second when Katie took a catch at backward point. KB 7 for 2 from 5.3 overs. Katie, who came on for the tenth over, was herself soon among the wickets by bowling both opener Azeem (31/3 off 11.2) and potentially dangerous number 4 G. Singh (44/4 from 13.1). Apart from the 19th over from which the Badgers took 13 runs the visitors were mainly content to accumulate but a double bowling change after the 20 over sanitation break paid off. Vipin came on for the 21st over and Douglas for the 22nd. With his second ball Douglas beat the KB captain, S.O.M. Khan, as he advanced down the wicket and Nab made the stumping. Six balls later Dean took a catch at short mid wicket off Vipin (73/6 after 22.2) and although the new batsman hit his second ball for four the next 23 balls bowled by Vipin and Douglas were dot balls. the sequence was broken by a single off Vipin but two balls later Douglas took a catch off Vipinn's bowling to make KB 78 for 7 after 27 overs. After three consecutive maiden overs Douglas improved his figures with a double wicket maiden. This was the 30th over of the innings in which Dean took his second catch of the day off the fourth ball bowled by Douglas who then bowled the new batsmen with his next ball. The final wicket went to Farhan thanks to a regulation catch behind the wicket by Nab.
As against Boroughmuir, South went for the right hand left hand opening pair of Dean and Harry who put on 53 for the first wicket in 13.5 overs. By this time Umar and Usman Tahir had come on as first and second change for the Badgers and they both extracted some bounce and movement from the wicket which slowed our victory progress and also accounts for a rather restrained innings by Nab. T. Khan returned to their attack to remove Harry and George but Nab was there at the end to hit a very big single to take us to our target - this because our 'keeper's attempt at a one bounce on driven four failed to bounce and scarcely rolled.
The two sides meet again on Wednesday in the Final of the Terry Newcombe Trophy.
