Match report Apart from the rain shower which forced the players to leave the field for around ten minutes after just over an hour of the home innings this was an enjoyable Sunday fiixture in which there was lots of player involvement on both sides. This also caused what started as a 35 over match to be cut back to 30 overs each.
On winning the toss, Anura opted to send the home side in but the game was in its tenth over before we took our first wicket. This came when Raja clean bowled opener Bell with the Gala Sunday side on 40. R. Patterson, the other opener and Sujan at number 3 both reached the retiral figure of 50. Patterson was first to reach this landmark at the end of the 20th over. In the next over David took the first of two catches at the wicket but this one was special as it was off the bowling of his father, Martin. David's second catch came in the 26th over off Shaman and in the same over Sujan retired. Abdul, returning for a second spell, set back the home side by bowling a double wicket maiden in whch Yallene, at backward point, and Chaitanya, at short mid wicket, both took good catches.
Chasing a target of 158 Raja and Shaman put on 24 for the second wicket and this was bettered when Abdul and Anura doubled the score from 35 to 70 in a partnership for the fourth wicket. Abdul continued batting well to reach a fine 50 but with only ten players overhauling the home total was beyond us.
