Livingston 3rds v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sun 08 May 2022 at 13:00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
It was not just the result which made this match special but even more it was the very genuine welcome which Edinburgh South 3rds received from their Livingston counterparts and the respect which both sides clearly had for their opponents both on and off the field. The pleasant setting of the well appointed Dresselrigg ground and a sunny Sunday afternoon also contributed to the feelgood factor.
On the field Livingston batted first and played soundly during the opening overs bowled by Sriram and our captain, Jas. The skipper claimed the first two wickets by bowling A. Jindal with the home score on 16 and later he had C. McDill, the other opener, well caught by Simon. Jas ended his spell with bowling figures (6-2-6-2) which might pass as a a good victory in a tennis match. Prabhneet and Ajay came on as a double change to replace the opening bowlers and took the next five wickets to fall. Prabhneet took two of these which came by way of two very different catches by Rahul. For the first he moved in from mid off to take a ball which the batter looped up to short cover and for the second he clungon to an attempted offside slash while fielding at second slip although he was positioned rather wider than conventional placement of such a fielder. Ajay bowled two of his victims and the third was pouched by Charlie behind the stumps. Kalyan K and Jeremy then came on to wrap up the lower order.
The opening partnership of Phil and Simon batted confidently in making 49 before Simon fell l.b.w but Rahul came in and built on the base which the openers had laid. Phil finished 23 not out and Rahul walked in with 19 not out in our 9 wicket win.
