Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 17 runs

Match report South won the toss and batted in this First Round match in the Cricket Scotland Challenge Cup.
They lost Harry l.bw. to the first ball of their innings and after Praful and Nab had added 24 for the second slumped to 32 for 5 after 10.1 overs. A partnership of 53 between Naveen and Vipin for the 6th wicket proved crucial and defiant lower order knocks by Siva and Kiran took us to a total of 115 from 32. 2 of our allocated 40 overs. (Note for the record, the batting positions of Vipin and Siva were 7 and 8 respectively - not as shown on this scorecard.)
East Kilbride also lost a wicket to the first ball of their innings when Harry's swift throw enabled Nab to remove the bails and bring off a run out. However, what became a significant event happened during the interval between innings. While batting Vipin had sustained a hamstring injury which prevented him from fielding or bowling. Nab took over the captaincy and Charlie went on, with the permission of the umpires and visiting captain to field as a substitute.
EK recovered with partnerships of 26 and 33 for their second and third wickets to be 59 for 3 after 20.4 overs with former Pakistan Test player Mohammed Ramzan at the crease for the visitors. Just before this juncture Nab had passed the 'keeping gloves to Kiran and had come on to bowl the 17th over. It was Nab who had ended the visiting 3rd wicket stand and Naveen held on to a caught and bowled chance after 21.4 overs. Siva bowled the number 6 bat with the second ball of his first over (the 24th) and with the last ball of the next over Nab claimed his second wicket thanks to a superb running catch by Charlie at long on. (EK 73 for 7.) Siva claimed a second bowled victim and then Charlie was in the action again in a run out (79 for 8 from 28.2.) but Ramzan was still batting and there was ample time left for him to steer the visitors home. Rudi came back into the attack and at the end of his second over of the new spell be bowled Ramzan and also took the final wicket in his next over when Naveen confidently held a catch at long on. A battling, committed, never-give-up performance had earned us a 17 run victory against the odds.
