Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Linlithgow CC on Sat 06 May 2023 at 12pm
Match was Abandoned Weather
Match report
Nab won his first toss for innings in the East Championship and asked Linlithgow bat in damp foggy conditions. The start had been delayed for half an hour while search parties were sent out to obtain some sawdust which was needed in the described conditions.
South gained their first wicket in the fourth over when Adnan linked with bowler Rudi to run out Kevin Stump and the same combination also claimed the second when Adnan took a smart low slip catch off Rudi's bowling. Farhan got into the act by bowling the visiting No.3 and just as Nos. 4 and 5 (Black and Morton) semed to be building a recovery in the first double figure stand Adnan took a further hand in the proceedings, quite literally. Having come on to bowl the 14th over, in place of Rudi, Adnan, with its last ball, diverted Morton's firm shot on to the bowler's end stumps with Black out of his ground to make the score 42 for 4. Nine runs and 3.5 overs later Adnan had a skied catch taken by Abhinav at backward point and in his next over, having just been hit for 4 by Morton, Adnan produced a fine delvery which shattered the batter's stumps. In the next over Abhinav took a second catch, this time off Mir's bowling to make the score 60 for 7 from 20.3. The next wicket fell just over 4 overs later. The introduction of Abhinav's spin succeeded after just five balls when he bowled the left handed Nettleton. In his next over Abhinav claimed a second victim when Charanjit took an acrobatic one handed catch at mid off. Dixon, at No. 8 had been batting positively and in No. 11 Hamilton he found a solid partner and together they added 23 for the last wicket. Dixon was the last player to be dismissed and once again Adnan had a part in that. Having completed a successful 10 over bowling spell at the end of the 32nd over he took over the gloves from Nab. Mir was brought back into the attack for over 34 and with his fourth ball he found Dixon's edge which directed the ball into Adnan's now gloved hands.
Rain looked a very real possibility as South started to chase 99 for victory but after 3 overs of careful play the fourth yielded 11 runs thanks to glorious shots for 4 and 6 by Charanjit. His partner Abhinav played some forcing shots on the off side to keep the scoreboard moving and when Charanjit was bowled for 23 the openers had put on 56 in 12.1 overs. Abhinav was out soon after to a diving c&b by Morton but when the light rain quickly turned to the downpour which drove the players off it was certainly "Advantage" South with Nab and Praful at the wicket. The rain did ease and go off and, although the pitch had been quickly covered, just as we were thinking of a re-start light rain returned to rule out that possibility due to the condition of the outfield.
There was much to be pleased about in the performance but although some very good catches were taken, 3 dropped chances probably made our target about 20 more than it should have been.
