Edinburgh CC v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 13 May 2023 at 12pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report * ADNAN and FARHAN SEE SOUTH HOME * ADNAN and MIR TAKE BOWLING PLAUDITS

Edinburgh C.C's decision to bat on winning the toss was well received in South's ranks as the consenus there was to bowl first. Farhan and Rudi opened the bowling for South and the first wicket was taken in the 12th over by Rudi when Kapoor spooned a catch into Adnan's hands at mid off. A double change brought Adnan and Mir into the attack and the former gained an l.b.w. decision in his second over and shortly after Mir bowled Farooq, the home No. 4. The next wicket was probably crucial to the outcome. Before and after changing ends Adnan was bowling tightly and at the start of the 30th over, from the Pentland end, he had opener Saqlain Butt smartly stumped by Nab - 80 for 4 from 29.1. Saqlain frequently scores heavily and quickly and although he was his side's top scorer with 42 his strike rate was, for him, an unremarkable 50.6 per hundred balls. From there Adnan and Mir both claimed 2 wickets in the next 7.1 overs. Both bowled one victim and had the other l.b.w. This reduced Edinburgh to 98 for 8 in 36.2. By then Adnan had bowled his quota of 10 overs and Nab had passed him the gloves. The skipper then came on and took the last 2 wickets, bowling No. 10 and having No.11 caught at the wicket by Adnan.
After the match Qasim texted about the difficult batting conditions on a low slow pitch against accurate bowling. Certainly losing Abhinav, who dragged a ball which stayed low ball into stumps, at the end of our first over provided evidence of this. Charanjit fell l.bw. with the score on 12 and our 3rd wicket fellat 33 after a stand of 21 for the 3rd wicket berween Nab and Praful. The latter was joined by Qasim and together they took us to 50 before Praful was bowled. Qasim and Adnan batted patiently until Qasim gave a catch to point with our score on 64. We quickly lost Siva and Vipin to become 75 for 7 from 32.1. At this point Farhan joined Adnan. Over 34 yielded us 9 runs, a 2 and a 3 to Adnan and a boundary to Farhan. The partnership built from there. Farhan struck a second boundary and by the end of the 38th over we were on 98. By this time Edinburgh had introduced a seventh bowler a leg spinner who had been treated circumspectly in his opening over. He bowled only 2 more balls as Adnan finished the game with a flourish. A four took us into three figures and a towering leg side six brought us victory !
