Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Edinburgh Accies CC on Sat 27 Apr 2024 at 12:00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 53 runs

Match report The match umpires delayed the start by 25 minutes to allow some necessary late work to be carried out on the pitch. When the start was made Accies were batting after Nab had won the toss for South.
Farhan made a break through in the fifth over when Nab took a catch at the wicket. Mir, on as second change, struck with the last ball of his first over and our first change bowler, Adnan, trapped opener Andrew Cosh l.b.w. two balls later. Mir gained the same lbw reward with first ball of his third over but the incoming No.6 Z. Ali struck him for 2 boundaries before that over ended. Manik took a good catch at short cover off Adnan in the middle of the 20th over to make our visitors 57 for 5 but the balance had started to tip in their favour. How so ?
The two 4s by Ali previously mentioned were followed by 3 more by the same batter who was on his way to a score of 52 (7 x Fours and one six) from 67 balls in a game changing innings. Several bowlers suffered at his hands before he was second last out This came about when he was caught by Manik off the bowling of Bilal who had earlier taken our sixth wicket by bowling the visiting captain and bowled tightly throughout his stint.
Our other wickets were claimed by Adnan, who took a regulation C & B, Praf, who bowled T. Singh and Manik who bowled the last bat. This was well deserved after his testin, but wicketless, opening spell
Our reply did not start well as we slumped to 18 for 4 in 5.5 overs although it has to be mentioned that Praf fell to an incredible running and diving one handed catch. A repair job was, to an extent, undertaken but three wicket fell to T.Singh in the 15th over. For the next 6 overs Adnan and Manik batted with little alarm until the former was adjudged to be out leg before wicket making our score 79 for 8 - in a statistical quirk this partnerhip of 37 was the highest in the match. The end soon followed with Manik being the last to perish.
This was certainly a disappointing start to our season and in journalese could be classed as "a shock". One question lingers .... did the Accies opening attack get more movement with the newly introduced pink ball than we did ?
