Edinburgh South Cricket Club 4th XI v Livingston 4s on Sun 12 May 2024 at 13:00
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won By 42 runs
Match report
On a sunny afternoon in Edinburgh, the most in form team in Edinburgh South took to the field.
Vice captain Dan & the ever reliable Graham Smith (yes he’s even better than his South African namesake).
After making a good start Dan found himself the first of many Victims of Livingstons youthful pace bowler who ended up with figures of 5-12 in his 8 overs.
Out strode Shaman who was caught out in two minds whether to play his natural pinch hitting style or go more Rahul Dravid on livi ending up in the middle of two shots tamely chipped one to cover.
Once again the 4s relied on Graham and Ansh to steady the ship and steady they did. With a mixture of great shots and smart and committed running they got South out of a hole and batted beautifully taking us from 26-2 to 56-2 at which point Graham finally middled one but sadly it was to Livingstones answer to Jonty Rhodes as the bowler plucked it out the sky off his own bowling.
Fahad joined young Ansh at the crease and together in another brilliant partnership got us to 90-4 at drinks. This is where the captain comes in (I’m not sure this was planned but we can pretend it was). South used the old Rope a dope tactic, as South constructed a masterful collapse going from 90-4 to 111 all out with poor Aaron “the anchor” Mundin having to try and bat with the tail.
An inspirational half time team talk by the skipper was all we needed, that and the moustachioed McLuckie mayhem, a wicket second ball bowled! That set the south up and sent the adoring crowds into raptures, using that energy Kalyan followed up keeping the runs the down while jack made stumps fly and batters cry.
Aaron and Prab swapped in to carry on the pace barage both picking up key wickets of set batsmen.
A partnership was brewing as were the clouds up above, the captain taking note of this saw that 20 overs were still a way away so made the quick tactical switch to spin to get through the overs, Captain not happy with just going through the overs decided to get a wicket (easy business for the Skipper) and the energy in the field paid off with brilliant work for the run out!
Another top performance by a top team, great energy and togetherness and a masterful collapse seeing the clouds overhead bravo South.
