Edinburgh South Cricket Club 2nd XI v Broomhall 2nds on Sat 20 Aug 2011 at 1300
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report One of our biggest crowds sat in the sun in the Meadows, ignoring us, but enjoying the Edinburgh Festival atmosphere.

After ESCC won the toss and fielded, this was a very impressive display of accurate bowling against a spirited but rather inexperienced Broomhall side, who found it difficult to pierce the field. Gus and Daryll set the tone, smothering any attempt at batting momentum, with tight line and length. Murali and Mohammed offerred no respite, then Asanka and Colin finished the job. The latter, on his umpteenth comeback, demonstrated unique economy of effort with a four ball two for. Six catches were taken, the pick being Asanka's second, a steepler to mid on, which he eventually held full length at the second attempt.

Asanka wasted little time in reaching the target, with a selection of judicious aerial shots, and this performance plus his two wickets earned him "man of the match". This mythical unofficial award was made by the scorer and otherwise redundant trundler writing this report.

This and other results have set up a very tight race for division 6 honours next week. One more win required!
