Match report
A wonderful summer day, albeit with a strong breeze lengthwise down the pitch, set the scene for this table topping clash - just one point separating the two sides before this match.

Ian inserted HX 3s, and Brendon then Jamie reduced them to 30 for 5 after 11 overs. Jamie impressed particularly, taking three wickets bowling with good control into the wind. Our old friends Mahmood Din and Richard Ellis combined for a short while, before Colin’s arrival in the attack brought two more wickets – 44 for 7. From that point, the last three wickets more than doubled the HX 3s’ score, helped by various dropped catches. However the final total of exactly 100 seemed manageable.

Calum’s patient style complemented Jamie’s more forceful approach in a 37 run opening stand, which laid the foundation of our reply. After Calum departed, Brendon (35*) and Ian (22*) assumed control with a succession of well struck shots.

At 86 for 2, Colin McGill of HX 3s became unwell in the field, and an ambulance was called as a precaution. We trust he is recovering now. The inevitable break in play rendered the short final phase of the match almost an anti climax, but ESCC 3s win was pleasing.
