Match report Third team captain Ian's calling was better than stand-in Fourths skipper Bill's coin spinning so the Fourths were given first use of the Liberton wicket which, as usual, played unpredictably.
It was deemed a good idea, if not quite a "cunning plan" for Vishal to take the game to our well known opposition in the openers role while Andrew acted as "the blunter". To an extent it worked as Vishal made a bold eight but the board did show 12 for 3 when he did not connect with a delivery from Eoghan. Jonathan and Andy B then put on the biggest partnership of the innings (11) for the fourth wicket. Jonathan perished to catch off a powerfully struck pulled drive (slog sweep in modern parance - the old term sounds much better) taken with aplomb by Brendon.Andy was next to go for the top score of 9 and after that no further runs were scored off the bat although Bill negotiated three balls from Gerry to remain not out when the ten man innings closed on 35.
Ross B and Fyfey both wore helmets when they came to open the innings for the Thirds. This was proved to be a wise decision when a good length ball from Dom fizzed just over Ross's head. Both batsmen had to deal with other tricky deliveries but they survived all of them to steer their team home in 13.3 overs.
