RH Corstorphine 4ths v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 4th XI on Sun 27 Apr 2014 at 1 p.m.
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
The prelude to this match of several firsts was a switch of venue to the artificial wicket at Inch Park as RH Corstorphine's ground at Barnton had a pool of water on it after heavy rain during the early hours of Saturday. This was done at the suggestion of of Kat Heathcote, our opponent's livewire President and Secretary.RHC remained responsible for the match arrangements which included a superb tea.
The firsts celebrated were RHC 4ths first fixture, a wicket with the first ball of the match for our opening bowler Charanjit Singh and at the end of an enjoyable afternoon a first win for Edinburgh South 4ths !
After Bill had won the toss and decided to bowl Charanjit knocked over the RHC's opener's stumps at the start and he also bowled numbers two and three in the order. Robert Edwards was brought on for the 11th over and the young left arm spinner settled in to a teasing spell which yielded three wickets. The last of these brought a first Edinburgh South stumping for Jim McLaren, who, like Young Lochinvar, "has come out of the West." Robert bowled in tandem with seamer Alex Shepherd who bowled his first two victims with slower yorkers while Robert took a catch at mid on to give Alex his third wicket. With nine wickets down Richard Tresidder, Charanjit's partner in the opening attack, was brought back and took just three balls to bowl the last batsman.
Ross Henderson and Brad Bonthrone went out to open the innings and steadily put on 25, with a generous helping of extras in 10.2 overs. Brad had hit an early 4, the only one of our innings, and played some firm shots in an unbroken partnership with Peter Fyfe which comfortably brought us the win which had previously eluded us.
