Match report For the second time in the season the team at the foot of the division fully tested our mettle. However, Karl in all three departments, Simon with the bat and Manu with the ball came up with the "big performances" which captain Rusty had called for in his pre-match message.
Westquarter asked us to bat on a green wicket and our run of brisk starts was halted when Charanjit was bowled by the second ball of the match. Manu was also soon back on the Bailliefields sidelines which brought Karl and Simon together at 12 for 2 after 5.5 overs. For the next 28.1 overs they stroked and smashed a partnership of 140 runs before being dismissed in successive overs. Despite frantic efforts tidy "death bowling" meant we were unable to lift the run rate in the wake of the big stand.
Mike gave Karl only 2 overs at the start of the home innings but the early change brought immediate success as Luke had the number one bat caught at slip by Karl who came back into the attack to clean bowl the other opener with the first ball of the 22nd over. A smart stumping by Joe off Farhan brought the third wicket after 27.1 and it was the first ball of Manu's second over (32nd of the innings) which bowled No. 5 bat, A. Aslam. Three balls later Karl caught the potentially dangerous I. Mazhar at short mid-wicket and Paul held on to a skier behind the bowler to give Manu his decisive third wicket which made W&R C.C. 105 for 6 from 33.5. Farhan and Karl closed out the game in the last four overs
