Stewart's Melville 2s v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 05 Jun 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 49 runs

Match report In Sir Walter Scott's poem Young Lochinvar came out of the West. Charanjit came out of lockdown in the West for his first league match of the season and as dauntless as the young knight in the poem hit the first ball of the match for 6 over mid wicket.
We had been put in after Daniel had lost the toss Charanjit continued to flay the bowling before being bowled by the last ball of the 9th over for 43 (32 balls, 7 x4, 1x 6). Opening partner Dean had made 19 in the first wicket parthership of 65. Dean went on to make our top score of 47 (58 balls, 3 x all in his stand with Charanjit and 1x 6) before being out after 22.5 overs with the score on110 for 4. George batted productively and was looking to press on but was run out for 21 in a misunderstanding with Kiran at the end of the 37th over. Kiran, however, made amends by adding an undefeated partnership of 31 for the 9th wicket with Daniel in the final three overs. This was the second highest partnership of the innings in which Kiran hit the only two boundaries it contained but their was much determind positive running. Our final total was 194 for 8 and the home support were bemoaning, probably correctly, the fact that their two spinners, Ben Jamieson(sla) and Katherine Fraser (Off spin) had, between them, only bowled 13 out of the 16 overs which they might have bowled.
Farhan struck again in the first over of the home reply when he claimed an l.b.w victim. The second wicket pair of Burgess and Devine put on 47 before Vipin bowled the former with the last ball of his second over. (12th of the innings.) Devine was next to go well caught at mid wicket by Daniel off Kiran (68 for 3 in 18.3) and although Vipin was bowling "dry" from the Ferry Road end a threatening partnership was developing for the 4th wicket. This ended with a runout thanks to Dean's throw to 'keeper Nab. This was quickly followed by a wicket for Farhan who had returned to the attack. In the next over Virender toook 2 wickets in 2 balls. The first was a catch by Vipin and Virender hit the stumps with his next ball to make Stew-Mel 123 for 7 from 31.4 overs. Catches by Nab, Dib and George off Farhan, Dean and Charanjit respectively closed the home innings for 145 from 39.3 overs.
