Westquarter & Redding CC v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 10 Jul 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
The home side batted first and Virender claimed our first wicket when he finished the second over of the match by bowling Sheehan with their total on three. U. and A. Aslam were developing a partnership for the second wicket but this was broken, wihen Kiran stooped to take a low return catch to make Westquarter and Redding 38 for 2 after 12.1 overs. Kalyan M made them three down with the first ball of the next over when Dean took a catch at cover and the same bowler soon followed this with his second wicket although he he may have been fortunate to gain an l.b.w. decision over Richard Tresidder, a former Edinburgh South Young Player of the Year. Eoghan took a catch at deep midoff to give Kiran a second wicket and the next two went to Vipin, first by means of a catch by Nab and then by bowling Z. Ausat.
Home left handed stalwart Imran Mazhhar gave every indication of trying to wrest the advantage from us but this attempt was cut short when the off spin of Douglas Blood was introduced to our attack. His first ball was driven firmly for two but with his next Douglas bowled him. Later in the over Douglas had W. Shahid well caught by Virender at a position which might best be described as fly leg slip or you might prefer to call it short fine leg. A catch by Kiran earned Farhan the tenth wicket.
In reply we lost Charanjit early and Dean was dismissed by Mazhar, who was as testing as ever, at the end of the seventh over. However, Nab, batting at three, had already scored 22 and was looking in good form. Rain brought the players off after 13.5 overs with our score at 64 for 2 but Nab (on 41) fell to the second ball after the resumption delivered by a new bowler, Ausat. Nab, together with Douglas, had added 39 for the third wicket. Both Dib and Douglas, who had batted well in making 27, were also bowled by Ausat, making us 83 for 5, This brought Vipin and Kiran together and they ensured there were no further alarms by taking us to a five wicket victory which was reached when Vipin finished the game in the grand manner with a six.
