Edinburgh South Cricket Club 1st XI v Carlton 3s on Sat 28 Aug 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Eóghan won the toss and decided to bowl first repeating what has been a fairly usual pattern during the season. This was rewarded by a wicket in the second over when Zaki Yusuf was early in making his shot and directed a ball from Daniel into the hands of Siva at short mid-wicket - again a fairly usual happening. The next passage of play did not follow a wicket-taking pattern as opener Peter Gill, playing his first match of the season, and number 3, Ben Thurman, put on a resolute partnership of 108 for the second wicket in three balls short of 30 overs. Our bowling was testing and accurate so the runs per over rate did not climb sharply. The ball often beat the bat and sometimes the batsmen hit the ball in the air to unoccupied parts of the field. From a visiting perspective, the batsmen did well in immediately dismissing such happenings and concentrating on the next ball. and they must be given credit for playing some good shots.

When we did make a breakthrough It came through Virender, who after a tight spell as first change came back to bowl the 32nd over. Gill lofted his second ball into Eóghan's hands at mid-on and as the batsmen had crossed it was Thurman who was on strike. Two balls later he nicked the ball into Nab's gloves. (Carlton 3rds 111 for 3 from 31.4 overs.) Paul Kentish did his best to push the visiting score along but he holed out to Eoghan on the long on boundary off Daniel who also claimed an LBW victim in the final over so the Arrows innings ended on 148/5. A rate of 3.7 per over.

Charanjit got us off to a flying start in the chase, with assistance from Dean and two sets of four byes. Fifty came uo in 6.5 overs (Carlton comparison 16.1 overs) Dean edged one to the keeper shortly after this landmark to make us 55 for 1 after 9.1 overs. Nab came in at number 3 and added 38 with Charanjit before the latter was run out. (93/1 from 16.1 overs) Harry then contributed a run a ball 15 in a stand of 25 with Nab before misjudging a ball from off-spinner Max D'Ulisse and Siva soon followed him back to the shade of the trees on the western boundary (121/4 from 22.2). This brought Vipin to the wicket and he batted soundly while speculation was breaking out on the boundary edge about the possibility of a 50 in successive matches for Nab. This our wicketkeeper did by bringing the scores level with a towering six and then calmly hitting a single off the next ball.
