Edinburgh South Cricket Club 2nd XI v Watsonian 4ths on Sat 05 Jun 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
Tough day for South. We batted first and Will and Charlie got us off to a great start until some accurate Watsonian bowling accounted for both. The accuracy continued, helped by generous home umpiring on giving LBW's and being super generous on wides, South found themselves pegged back. A battling 36 from Dipen being the only other real score of note as he held the innings together during the middle overs putting on partnerships with Sharan and Sriram. throughout the innings winvis was predicting a score of about 155 being par which is exactly what it seemed and the South innings ended on 158-9 in 40 overs.
South's bowling reply started well with Aaron picking up the dangerous looking Suresh and shail keeping it very tight. Watsonians managed to put on 80 for the second wicket which looked to be a match winning partnership until the South bowlers bit back and a clatter of wickets in the back end of the watson's innings (falling to Sriram, Sharan, and Kalyan K) left about 30 to win off 10. Turning back to his 2 left armers to bowl the last overs Russell and Shail gave a masterclass in left arm swing bowling nibbling outside off stump but unfortunately for South, Watson's got over the line with a ball to spare. Abbey for Watson's hit 74 and was the match winning innings. Had South's generosity of wides been reciprocated Watson's would have need another 5-8 runs and South would have got over the line. Saying that we dropped catches and there were overthrows and dodgy fielding throughout which will need to improve to win tight games.
Onwards and upwards, one subpar performance doesn't make the team and we are still pushing to win the league and hopefully we have learnt more from this than the victories.
