Watsonian 4ths v Edinburgh South Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 31 Jul 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 78 runs
Match report
This week the 2's made the short journey to Craiglockhart to play Watsonian's 4's. Watson's were responsible for 1 of only 2 defeats so far this season so the 2's wanted a bit of revenge but were also wary of their opponents. On a very wet day in classic scottish cricket weather (drizzle) the decision to play in the rain looked like a poor one from edinburgh after they were reduced to 34-4 with 3 catches down the legside by the wicket keeper. This left Simon Martin looking around for a batting partner and captain Aaron Mundin deciding if he was going to waste a new ball for edinburgh's bowling stint... Lucky for Edinburgh cometh the hour cometh the man and Akshank Tiwari stepped up to the plate putting on 95 for the 5th wicket with Simon, running well and putting the bad ball to the fence as well as riding his luck (8 times according to him!) before Simon fell for a very well made first ever 57 trying to accelerate the scoring. All that was left was for some late order hitting with Akshank guiding the tail and bringing up his own first ever 50 to end 58 not out. A huge batting performance from South on a very wet outfield brought up 182 in 35 overs.
The target always looked a big total for watson's to chase and when Kalyan Madduri and Prab Singh bowled so well up top to restrict watsons to 22 off the first 10 overs it was always going to be too much. A few hits from Aardarsh and Millar aside watsons never really looked likely to get close and wickets were shared around with Kalyan M and Dib Dey picking up 2, Kalyan K, A Mundin, I Astley and J Shepherd all with 1 with only Prab going wicketless which was very unfair as he went at less than 2 an over but others capitalised on his economy.
A great win for South and onwards to next week against Gala, the other team to beat us this year!
