Match report Captain Blood (Jeremy) won the toss and sent Carlton in to bat in what was, somewhat unexpectedly, a 40 over match. Saad and Vharish opened the bowling and the first overs were wicketless. Our fortunes quickly changed when James was brought on for the eleventh over. With his second ball he induced Carlton's diminutive opener, Tom Hathorn, to direct an attempted hit to leg into David's gloves and struck again four balls later when their number three, Fergus Foley, was the victim of a one handed catch at mid off by Keshav. James claimed our third wicket of the day with the first ball of his fourth over when David Rowlands lofted a catch to Saad at mid on. (Arrows 68 for 3 from 16.1 overs.) This was to make James our leading wicket taker of the day. Sam, being our only bowler not to give away a wide, clearly bowled a good line to finish as our most ecomomical bowler with 1 for 13. Vharish, Siddarth, Keshave and Raja each took a wicket before the visitor's innings closed on 159 for 8.
The Mitres' innings was dealt a double early blow when Tomas Hunt took two wickets in his fourth over when Raja was caught behind and Anura was l.b.w. Zaara Dancu dismissed two of our top five in becoming the second of the visiting bowlers to take two wickets but that was overshadowed at the end of the innings. Before that, however, we had our only significant partnership of the day in which Saad and Rod added 29 for the seventh wicket in 9.2 overs. Saad was the first victim of the Arrows main wicket taker of the day who captured a wicket in each of his three overs to finish with figures of 3 for five. The last of these ended the match. And who is this successful bowler ? Someone whose quality, despite his young age, we have been aware of for some time as it was none other than our sometime All Star, Aaradhy Khadse. He had not batted as the pre-match arrangements had approved the use of 12 players but with only 11 being able to bat.
